May the 4th Be With You!

The artbooks released alongside each of the Star Wars sequel trilogy films remain personal favorites of mine. It was so cool, and at times disappointing, to see all the designs and ideas that never made it into the movies. One concept in particular stood out to me, an idea for what a First Order Super Star Destroyer might have looked like.

Just a few days ago, we produced a video detailing how the First Order didn’t quite live up to expectations. As a follow-up, in two days (May 6th) we’ll be releasing an episode detailing the First Order as it could have been. I really wanted to include this Super Star Destroyer in that video, so we tasked two friends of the Institute with bringing this ship to life.

Using those original concepts, a mysterious stranger known only as SilverMobius, who previously designed the Antares Confederacy’s UC-67 dropship, produced a rough 3d model. This was then delivered to our “artist in residence;” Joan Piqué Llorens who added all the extra highlights and details. We were also lucky enough to incorporate some amazing fan designs by EC Henry to escort this ship, creating what I think is a pretty unique look at an alternate version of the First Order Navy.

You’ll get a chance to learn how that Super Star Destroyer might have fit into a reimagined First Order in a couple days, but in celebration of today’s ancient religious observance, the Templin Institute is proud to release this artwork to all personnel. If you’d like a 4k version, it is available exclusively to our Patrons who have pledged at the $2 or above tier.

Thank you everyone for your support, and May the 4th Be With You!
